What's New

Coming STRAIGHT to You

Who here finds styling their hair in this humid, hot, and rainy MN summer we’ve been having close to impossible? Yes, me too. Most of us try our hardest to get our hair looking smooth, sleek and luscious only to have it become a crazy, frizzy, affro-ey mess as soon as we step outside. Well ladies (and gents), I have something for you. Aveda has come out with a new product from their Smooth Infusion line called Naturally Straight. Similar to Avedas Glossing Straightener this product smooths, tames, and adds shine. The difference? Naturally Straight progressively straightens your curl with every use. The more you use this product, the more you see its straightening benefits and long lasting effects. After about 4 uses you will begin to see the amazing results from this amazing product! Naturally Straight is a creme base which evenly distributes through the hair without feeling heavy or sticky as it helps fend off frizz. Want more? This product also reduces drying time! Whats not to love? We love this, our hair loves this, and I know you will too. Love your hair this summer 🙂

Swept From the City Streets of NYC

New York City, a mysterious world full of lights, taxis and McDonalds. Not to mention the people that populate this city, rock stars, hipsters, fashionistas, business men, and your everyday tourists. Fashion, music, beauty and all talent alike flock to find their destiny in New York City. But, what makes this city so appealing? All over the world New York City is admired, why? Is it because of the unrefined, raw, yet glamorous aura? Or, the darker side of town, the rugged, slightly dangerous side? I have never been to New York City, but I have come to the conclusion that it’s a little bit dirty, a little bit scary, a little bit wild, but a lot of fun. I like those traits in a person, place, or product for that matter. I like to express myself through my everyday “look” and attitude towards life. Fun, edgy, a little wild, and maybe even a little scary at times. One of my new favorite products from Bumble and bumble was inspired from none other than the infamous New York City itself. It captures the “un-done”, “un-refined”, tousled, yet glamorous look from the girls that roam the New York City streets in a single bottle. Yes, this is my kind of stuff.

Introducing Bumble and bumble’s City Swept finishing spray. I love the unpolished look, and this does just that. This styling balm in a can, gives an even amount of texture that creates a piecey, rugged look while locking in moisture and finishing with just the right amount of shine. Take your look to New York City no matter where you are. Be a little bit wild, a little bit edgy, but most of all, have fun.

Sound like fun? r!ah Hair Studio is making room for this amazing new product on our shelves and we want everyone to have it. Stop by and get your own ‘cuz i’m not sharing. 😉

Love,

Inspiration from Fashion Week 2013

As some of you may know New York Fashion week was last week and I have been following some of the action from home. Beauty and clothing design companies from all over the world flock to New York to show off their newest collections in clothes and accessories, and hair and makeup skills to thousands of viewers. A couple hundred designers take part in this epic week of fashion and hair, some of my favorite designers and beauty companies that attended were: Vera Wang, Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, Aveda, Bumble and bumble, and Moroccan Oil. These designers showcased their Spring 2014 collections and the action was covered across many television networks and social media websites including Facebook and Instagram.

One of my favorite articles is Allure magazine’s top 8 hair styles from New York Fashion Week:

Here are some additional links to Aveda and Bumlble and bumbles websites where they had their own video coverage on NYFW 2013.

Enjoy

Big is back!

In the past, smooth, controlled, sleek styles have been “in”, but I am happy to announce that big is back! For some of you big never left, but for a while magazines, movies, and TV shows featured people wearing a more smooth, glossy, straight look. More and more product lines are now making new volumizing, root boosting, and hair holding products to pump up your look. One of my favourite lines that has re-defined volume is Bumble and bumble. They have recently released an entire thickening line to boost your volume and add texture. The new line consists of Thickening shampoo and conditioner, Thickening Hairspray, Thickening Full Form Mousse, Thickening Dry-Spun Finishing Spray, and a Thickening Crème Contour Finishing Paste. One of my favorites from the line is the Thickening Full Form Mousse. I naturally have fine, flat hair so this stuff really adds some texture and volume, not to mention it smells great! Some of you may not know the first thing about getting volume into your hair or the best way to use these products, well lucky for you Bumble and bumbles website has a ton of step by step video guides to walk you through the products and how to use them. Here’s one to get you started:

Earth Day

Minnesotans have been waiting patiently for spring to show its face this season.  Maybe we will just go from winter, to “SPRINTER”, to summer.  April has been filled with rain, sleet, snow, and occasionally the sun poking through for a few minutes here and there.  Let’s take our minds off the weather being so awful and shift our focus to why the weather is acting this way.  Is it Mother Nature just being cruel to us or is it global warming? We may not know, but regardless of this sprinter weather, April has always been a month of keeping the earth clean; or trying to make it better.  In this day and age we should all try to be cautious of what we do to the earth each and every day. Why do we need a month or even a National Earth Day to do something great for the earth? I think we are all guilty of taking those showers a little too long, running the dishwasher half full, or even keeping lights on when they are not needed.  If we all try to make one single change in how we treat the earth each day we will make a difference.  Today is National Earth Day, let us know what you are doing to celebrate Mother Earth, and be entered to win a $25.00 gift card.  You can also stop in and donate $12 to the Audubon Society to help clean up the Mississippi River, and we will GIVE YOU A FREE Light the way candle from Aveda.
