Our 2019 Earth Month Partner:
Charity Water

Many of us have no idea what it’s like to be thirsty. We have plenty of water to drink — even the water in our toilets is clean!

But many people around the world don’t have that luxury. Every day, about 1,400 children die from diseases caused by unsafe water and poor sanitation. But it doesn’t have to be that way. There are simple solutions like drilled wells, spring protections and BioSand filters that help provide clean water to communities around the world.

Spring 2018

Spring is a time of unpredictable change. The weather can vacillate and tease us, going from balmy and 55 degrees to 18″ of snow in a matter of hours.  This time of year, Minnesotans are typically running around without our winter coats in the hopes that we won’t freeze between our car and whatever building we are going into.  The thought of summer starts to linger in our minds, and with that comes a happy-go-lucky sort of cheer in the air.  The sun shines bright and the days are getting longer.  Yes. This. Is. Good.

In the world of fashion, spring 2018 New York Fashion Week showed clothes in bright saturated hues. London Fashion Week was more subdued, with softer pastels.  Both New York and London showcased mermaid, beachy, carefree hair. Braids, half up, low slung ponytails, blunt chin-skimming bobs, double bound ponytails, and twisted hair tucks were some of my favorites.  Make up this season is fresh, simple, and most importantly shows off your healthy skin.  Get out of your matte lips, and into nude gloss.  Rose gold both on eyes and lips is perfect for this time of year. Brows are still a big trend this spring, just brushed up, still full and natural looking. Check out some of these great looks at Cosmopolitan.

At r!ah Hair Studio, we absolutely love spring.  Spring is in the air, even if there is still snow on the ground.

Hope to see you soon!

Oatmeal Banana Breakfast Muffins

It’s the perfect time of year to turn the oven and bake up some treats. Here is a great recipe that I found on Welltraveledwife.

2.5 cups old fashioned oats {or gluten-free}
1 cup plain low fat greek yogurt
2 eggs
3/4 cup sugar {or sweetener of choice}
1.5 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
2 ripe bananas

chocolate chips {optional)

1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Spray tin with non-stick cooking spray or line 12 muffin tins with silicone or foil liners.
2. Place all of the ingredients, including bananas in a blender or food processor, and blend until oats are smooth. {I added the oats a cup at a time and blended in between}
3. Divide batter among cupcake liners, and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until toothpick comes out clean.
**Be sure to watch them closely in the oven, because depending on altitude, baking time may be a little less**
4. Most importantly: Enjoy & try not to eat them all at once!

These muffins are so easy to make and delicious! Not to mention, very healthy. Great breakfast, snack or dessert muffins. Play around with different add ins and toppings, I added a little cinnamon and vanilla to sweeten it up just a bit.

Are you feeling lucky this winter?

We have had a great start to our winter season.  Although, most of us tend to dread the never ending snow and bitter cold.  We grow to hate winter and all of its interruptions in our daily routines. Harsh driving conditions, dead plant life, slippery ice, and cold wind make it easy to complain about the winter.  I  tend to want to hibernate inside until it’s over.  This year I am trying something new.   What if we could find the beauty in winter, celebrate the snow, and embrace the cold? Sounds crazy I know.   What if we could really try to appreciate this season we are in and love the state of Minnesota for the next few months? Lets get out of our houses and find things to do to enjoy this time of year and see the beauty of the snow in these wintry months instead of just enduring it.  My family and I have been getting out on the beautiful Douglas Trail on the weekends for a little snowy adventure.  You can see from the pics, all of us (including the dogs) have had a blast!

How are you going to show your loved one how much he or she means to you this Valentine’s Day?   According to Statistic Brain, 50% of women would end their relationship because they didn’t get the gift they wanted.   It doesn’t say how many actually do break up, but it makes me wonder!

I know I can’t guarantee your safety from the break up, but here’s an idea that will have her falling in love with you all over again.

 Aveda just re-launched its original “LOVE” oil.  It makes me happy just thinking about it.  It helps restore moisture and delivers instant radiance.  Use it immediately after a shower to seal in moisture to leave skin feeling soft and supple.  It has a sensual aroma with Australian sandalwood, certified organic jasmine, vetiver and frankincense.

To gift it:  Light a few (AVEDA) candles, turn on some Marvin Gay, add a few drops to a warm bath, sprinkle a few rose petals in the water, and you have a perfect gift.  (Love can be used on the body, bath, hair, and scalp.)

Cheers to LOVE!
